THE NYTARCH
The Nytarch is the government of the vampire world. After the Bloodline War wiped out the Eretik bloodline, the Nytarch was created to ensure cohesion between the remaining three bloodlines and the protection of the vampire race. Over the centuries its influence and power spread across the globe and today it secretly controls the governments and institutions of the human world.
Teremun de Nytarch, of the Draugar bloodline, founded the Nytarch around the turn of the first millennium (1000 CE) along with his night family. His family has maintained control over the centuries and holds an iron grip on the reigns of power in both the vampire and human worlds alike.
The Grand Master
The Grand Master is the highest position in the Nytarch and is held by its founder, Teremun de Nytarch. He is believed to be the oldest and most powerful vampire in existence. He rules with absolute authority and the mention of his name is enough to terrify vampires across the globe.
The Grand Mistress
The position of Grand Mistress was originally an equal partner to that of Grand Master. Lilith de Nytarch is both the wife and night sister (night siblings are those created by the same vampire and not of biological human relation) of Teremun. When it became clear that Teremun did not see her as his equal, Lilith attempted a coup. As a punishment, she was stripped of any real power and became little more than a consort to the Grand Master.
The Vizier
The Vizier is the second highest rank in the organization. The position is held by Teremun’s favorite night child, Miriam de Nytarch. Teremun is rarely seen by those outside the Nytarch and operates through his night daughter. Miriam is the voice of Teremun and governs the Nytarch on his behalf, carrying out his orders and keeping things running to his expectations. Miriam’s power extends only over the western world as the East is governed by another.
The Eastern Vizier
Teremun’s night brother, Raiden de Nytarch, controls the Eastern world. Whilst he does technically answer to Teremun, Raiden runs the East as his own kingdom and is more of a second Grand Master. Raiden was banished from the West after joining Lilith’s coup. Teremun gave Raiden a domain of his own as a way of keeping his lustful ambition in check.
The General
General Alexander de Nytarch is the oldest night child of Teremun and was created by both Teremun and Lilith giving him the blood of two powerful vampires. A soldier in his human life, Teremun chose him to lead the soldiers of the Nytarch. In the modern era there is little need for a vampire army as the Nytarch’s control is secure, and Miriam prefers to handle dissenters via more covert means. The General answers to the Vizier which is a source of contention for Alexander who does not like reporting to his younger night sister.
The Whisperer
The Whisperer is the commander of espionage and the position is held by Amara de Nytarch, the second-to-youngest night child of Teremun. She answers to the Vizier. Her job is to keep an eye on human governments and make sure they act in the interests of the Nytarch. Whilst she is mainly concerned with human governments, she also keeps tabs on vampires who have caught her attention, including those in the East.
The Herald
Barnabas de Nytarch is the youngest of Teremun’s night children and is the messenger of the Nytarch. Only the Grand Master and the Vizier have the authority to command the Herald, so if Baranbas delivers a message the recipient knows they must respond with haste. In a world of text messages and emails, the Herald is used only when messages require more gravitas.
The Medju
The Medju is the fixer of problems. The position is held by Conrad Sinclair who answers directly to the Vizier who created the role with him in mind. Conrad’s duties are mostly covert; he is tasked with solving problems quietly and efficiently. He is the only member of the Nytarch who is not of the Nytarch family or of the Draugar bloodline.
The Masters
The world is divided into domains, each one governed by a master who reports to the Nytarch. Their job is simple: they must keep all vampire activity quiet and maintain the secrecy of the race. Occasionally they are tasked with influencing local human authorities, however, this is usually handled by members of the Nytarch or their agents.
Each state of the USA has a master, smaller countries (such as the UK) have a master presiding over the entire country. The Masters report directly to the Vizier, however, they can be commanded by any member of the Nytarch. The term Master denotes rank and is therefore used for both male and female vampires.
The Elders
Each Master divides their territory up and assigns an Elder to govern each province. The Elders report directly to their Master.
